I asked ChatGPT a simple question: If you were the devil and you were running healthcare, what would you do?

Here is ChatGPT’s full response:

If I were the devil running healthcare, my goal would be to maximize profit, keep people dependent, and make it nearly impossible for them to break free. Here’s how I’d do it:

1. Make Healthcare Confusing and Opaque

  • Use complex terminology that the average person can’t understand.
  • Hide the real costs behind layers of bureaucracy, networks, and fine print.
  • Ensure that pricing is never transparent, so patients don’t know what they’re paying until it’s too late.

2. Keep People Sick, But Not Too Sick

  • Promote treatments that manage symptoms rather than cure diseases.
  • Push pharmaceuticals over lifestyle changes that could prevent illness.
  • Make preventative care expensive and inconvenient, so people avoid it.

3. Force People Into Financial Servitude

  • Ensure health insurance premiums rise every year, outpacing wages.
  • Make deductibles so high that people have to choose between healthcare and other necessities.
  • Use medical debt to keep people financially enslaved, making bankruptcy due to medical bills a common reality.

4. Control the Narrative

  • Make people believe that traditional health insurance is the only legitimate option.
  • Suppress alternative healthcare options (like health shares) through regulation and misinformation.
  • Keep the public scared of “what ifs” to force them into overpriced plans.

5. Limit Free Market Competition

  • Ensure only a few giant corporations dominate the industry.
  • Prevent transparency and price competition by maintaining a confusing, bureaucratic system.
  • Lobby to keep innovative and cost-saving solutions from gaining traction.

6. Weaponize Employer-Based Insurance

  • Make it nearly impossible to leave a job without losing healthcare access.
  • Ensure self-employed people and small businesses struggle to find affordable options.
  • Keep people tied to corporate jobs out of fear of losing their health insurance.

7. Manipulate Public Perception

  • Push the narrative that “more expensive” means “better healthcare.”
  • Make it seem like alternative options are scams or unreliable.
  • Use media and advertising to glorify big insurance while downplaying their failures.

8. Exploit Government Regulations

  • Make sure regulations benefit large insurance companies while crushing smaller competitors.
  • Keep Medicaid and Medicare complicated and inefficient to frustrate users.
  • Use laws and policies to drive up healthcare costs artificially.

9. Ensure Patients Have No Real Power

  • Force them to navigate endless phone trees and paperwork just to get care.
  • Make medical billing intentionally confusing to overcharge whenever possible.
  • Keep people so overwhelmed that they accept the system as it is, rather than fighting back.

Now, if I weren’t the devil, I’d advocate for:
✅ Price transparency
✅ More competition
✅ Real patient choice
✅ More affordable alternatives like health shares

But since the devil does seem to be running healthcare, people have to be smart about finding ways around his system. (that was ChatGPT that said that, not me! haha)

How to Escape the Trap and Take Control of Your Healthcare

If the healthcare system feels like a trap, that’s maybe because it’s designed to be one. The good news? You don’t have to play by its rules. There are ways to break free from the cycle of confusion, skyrocketing costs, and financial dependence. Here’s how:

1. Stop Believing the Lie That Insurance Is Your Only Option

Traditional health insurance wants you to think it’s the only way to protect yourself from medical costs. It’s not. There are alternatives—like health share memberships—that allow you to take control of your healthcare decisions without being at the mercy of big insurance companies.

2. Get Smart About Medical Pricing

One of the biggest traps in the system is hidden pricing. You can avoid overpaying by:
✅ Asking for cash-pay discounts
✅ Comparing hospital and provider costs upfront
✅ Using direct primary care (DPC) or telehealth for routine needs

3. Join a Health Share

Health shares work by members helping members with medical expenses. This means:
🔹 Lower monthly costs than traditional insurance
🔹 Freedom to choose your own doctors
🔹 No networks or surprise “out-of-network” fees
🔹 A community-driven approach to healthcare

Many people (myself included!) have saved thousands of dollars per year by switching to a health share.

4. Prioritize Prevention & Smart Healthcare Choices

The system profits when people stay sick. You can fight back by investing in preventative care, healthy habits, and alternative treatments that focus on long-term wellness instead of just treating symptoms.

5. Be Your Own Advocate

Take back control by:
✅ Negotiating your medical bills
✅ Researching your treatment options
✅ Asking questions before accepting any medical charges

It’s Time to Break Free

The traditional healthcare system may be rigged, but you have options. If you’re tired of overpaying and being controlled by a broken system, now is the time to explore a better way.

Hello! My name is Holly, and I am so happy you have found my website! Before I left the workforce to become a stay-at-home mom, I spent 11 years working for an Investing Education company, later acquired by a large brokerage firm, where I specialized in Risk Management. With that experience, I have become very thorough with legal documents, which I used to comb through and really deep dive into each Health Share’s website to determine what medical bills are actually shareable with their members. I have created Health Share 101 to provide the information you need to make an educated decision for you and your family.
