In this post, I am going to review monthly costs (range is dependent on age, individual/family memberships, and the Initial Unshareable Amount), preventative sharing, pre-existing conditions, maternity, turnaround time to pay medical bills, and any special considerations to be aware of.

About United Refuah
United Refuah HealthShare is the first and only Jewish-based Health Care Sharing Organization.
United Refuah was designed with the unique characteristics of the American Jewish population in mind. The goal was to be the best health care sharing organization for its members, which doesn’t necessarily mean the lowest monthly contribution. The founders have taken the best of other health care sharing organizations in order to provide the best value to their members.
Member Responsibility Amounts
Members are responsible for paying their Annual Pre-Share Amount for each sharing year before sharing begins.
Single – $500
Couple – $1,000
Family – $1,500
Once the Annual Pre-Share Amount has been met, 80% of eligible medical expenses will be assigned for sharing. Members are responsible for the remaining 20% of eligible medical expenses until the Annual Member Co-Share Responsibility is met.
For members that join on or after 11/01/2021, the Maximum Annual Co-Share Responsibility is:
Single – $1,000
Couple – $2,000
Family – $4,000
Pregnancy Fee – In addition to the Annual Pre-Share Amount, there is an additional ‘Pregnancy Fee’ per pregnancy for Single and Couple Memberships.
Single – $2,500
Couple – $900
For any pregnancy related expenses to be eligible for sharing, members must be married at the time of conception, and the estimated date of delivery must be at least ten months from the date of enrollment.
Monthly Contribution Price Range
Single – $199/month
Couple – $349/month
Family (3-6 members) – $499/month
Enrollment Fee
Initial Enrollment cost: $125
Recurring Annual Fee (Starting Year 2): $75
Statement of Faith
Must accept their Statement of Faith, which is based on the Jewish Faith. Must maintain a Jewish lifestyle, including refraining from any tobacco products and “promiscuous or out-of-wedlock relationships”
Preventative Sharing
Annual Wellness Visit – After the first 60 days of membership, members are eligible for one Annual Wellness or Physical. This includes standard wellness laboratory tests and other ancillary services or procedures that occur during or as a result of the wellness visit are eligible for sharing up to a maximum sharing amount of $600.
Pap smears – For women between the age of 21 to 65 years old are eligible to have a pap smear every 3 years up to $300.
Screening Mammograms – Eligible for sharing one time between the ages of 40-49 years old, then eligible for sharing every other year once 50 years old. Shareable up to $250.
Screening Colonoscopies or ColoGuard Screenings – After the first year of membership, screening colonoscopies and ColoGuard screenings are eligible for sharing once every ten years for members 50 years and older. Shareable up to $1,500 for Colonoscopy and $500 for ColoGuard.
Pre-Existing Conditions
During the first year of membership, there is no sharing for preexisting conditions. For the second and third year of membership, sharing for preexisting conditions is limited to $25,000 per condition. During the fourth and subsequent years of membership, such conditions are no longer considered preexisting. Certain medical conditions may preclude an applicant from joining or may require a permanent waiver for that condition prior to acceptance.
Maternity
Pregnancy Pre-Share
In addition to the Annual Pre-Share Amount, there is a Pregnancy Pre-Share per pregnancy. The Pregnancy Pre-Share shall be excluded in determining the Annual PreShare and the Annual Maximum Co-Share Amounts.
Single – $2,500
Couple – $900
United Refuah shares in pregnancies provided that the sharing mother was married at the time of conception and that the estimated due date is a minimum of ten (10) months from the date of enrollment when membership effective date is the first of the following month. When membership start date has been deferred, a pregnancy will be eligible if the estimated due date is a minimum of ten (10) months from the membership effective date. Pregnancies of single members are subject to a Pregnancy Fee of $2,500. Pregnancies of sharing mothers who are part of a couple membership are subject to a Pregnancy Fee of $900. Pregnancies of sharing mothers who are part of a family membership are not subject to a Pregnancy Fee.
