There are many Health Share Plans that are ACA Compliant.
Health Share Plans that are ACA Compliant
All recognized healthcare sharing ministries that have been continuously in existence since before the year 2000 are exempt from the individual ACA mandate.
Here are the Health Share Plans that are ACA Compliant:
Altrua HealthShare: In 2014 Altrua Ministries, dba Altrua HealthShare received its recognition as a Health Care Sharing Ministry recognized by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). As a result, Altrua HealthShare is that it is ACA compliant. This means that as an Altrua HealthShare member, you do not have to worry about being hit with fines or penalties for not having healthcare coverage.
Christian Care Ministry (Medi-Share): The Affordable Care Act includes a special provision for members of Healthcare Sharing Ministries, so Medi-Share members are exempt from the mandate to purchase insurance.
Christian Healthcare Ministries (CHM): Christian Healthcare Ministries (CHM) is a federally certified exemption to the U.S. Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (the PPACA, more commonly known as Obamacare). As such, CHM is an eligible option under the national healthcare law.
Liberty HealthShare: Liberty HealthShare is fully compliant with the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and members are eligible to claim their exemption.
OneShare Health: Members of a qualified Health Care Sharing Ministry, such as OneShare Health, are ACA exempt if they share a common set of ethical or religious beliefs and share medical expenses among themselves in accordance with those beliefs.
Samaritan Ministries: A membership in Samaritan Ministries meets the rules of the ACA, because recognized healthcare sharing ministries are exempt from the individual mandate of Obamacare (ACA).
Share HealthCare: Share HealthCare is a non-profit, ACA-exempt medical cost sharing ministry.
Solidarity HealthShare: Under the Affordable Care Act guidelines, members of health care sharing ministries, including Solidarity, are exempt from the fines and mandates of the ACA
Health Share Plans that are not ACA Compliant
Sedera: Membership in the Sedera Medical Cost Sharing Community is not minimum essential coverage (MEC) and does not make an individual compliant with the federal ACA mandate or any state-level individual mandate that requires individuals to purchase health insurance.
Zion HealthShare: Membership in the Zion HealthShare Medical Cost Sharing Community is not minimum essential coverage (MEC) and does not make an individual compliant with the federal ACA mandate or any state-level individual mandate that requires individuals to purchase health insurance.
Do You Need an ACA Compliant Health Share Plan?
Since 2019, you are not required to obtain Minimum Essential Coverage under the Affordable Care Act and you will not be penalized for failing to purchase traditional health insurance. This means that for most Americans, you can join any Health Share Plan, whether they are ACA Compliant or not.
There are a few states that have individual state mandates: California, District of Columbia, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
If you live in one of the states mentioned above, you will still need to meet the minimal Health Insurance requirement or choose a Health Share Plan that is ACA Compliant. When preventative care is needed, it would be covered through your Health Insurance Plan. When a larger unexpected medical need arises, it would be shared with your Health Share community.
